United States Army // Automated Installation Entry (AIE-2)

PioneerTech is supporting BAE Systems on this project to improve the existing AIE system, a COTS-based security system for the Army. The resulting system, AIE-2, provides a cost-effective system that enhances installation access control points (ACP) security at military installations. Today, the PioneerTech Team is installing AIE-2 at 26 military installations. This will cover 254 military installation entry lanes for vehicles and cover 108 access control points across the United States.

Prior to the development of the AIE-2 system, users were required to pre-register at the visitor center using independently developed and procured access control equipment that wasn’t standardized, interoperable, or integrated. Our Team carefully examined the existing system and the Army’s requirements. We determined a new enterprise-wide solution was needed that would integrate all security aspects into one location. To support the Army, we conducted an application rationalization on their existing systems. Benefits realized by the Army include:

  • A modern cost-effective system that integrates with different bases and enhances installation ACP security. The system connects directly to the web-based middleware solution called the Interoperability Layer Service (IoLS) and various authoritative databases at Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC).
  • Automated identity authentication and verification of registered personnel entering the installation. This minimizes guard force requirements and allows for adaptation of increased authentication requirements at high threat levels and facilitates registered personnel entry into multiple installations without the need for re-registration.
  • Modular and scalable features that allow future extensions to other security, access control and force protection systems. The system is currently used in the Continental United States (CONUS) military locations with possible future employment at outside CONUS (OCONUS) sites and temporary locations.
